Last week I got one of those calls from Christian Payne, you know the ones where he tells you something really really interesting (and often hush hush) and then asks if there is anything you could do to help out … no? – must just be me then The Freebees Challenge Social Location

Anyways, it turned out he had agreed to travel from Lands End to John O’Groats – but get this, he has to do it with no money for travel, food, water or accommodation! The only currency he has is five £10 pay as you go Vodafone SIM cards which will allow him to use his social networks to ask for help on his trip.

On Sunday, I put the guts together for a page that would plot his route and mark offers of help from twitter users who would be willing to barter texts, international calls, data or any of Christians personal services in return for a lift, some bread or a rug to sleep on. The Google map below is following his route and is embedded on http://FreeBees.me along with his social stream and a twitter search and is based on his existing Documentally profile page I had previously created.

On Monday morning, the journey began …

Amazingly, by the evening he was heading towards Derby some 375miles travelled! and I was able to pick him up and offer drink, food and shelter. Rather tired, he recorded this message …

It’s coming to the end of day two and he has hit Edinburgh already, make sure you trek over to http://FreeBees.me to follow the rest of his progress and if you can offer help for the rather tricky end part of the journey, please contact me or @Documentally

Good luck mate!
