I had the chance to get my hands on a Canon EOS 7D for a quick test. I'm mainly interested in seeing it's video capabilities and have uploaded a raw file direct from the camera as an example.
The camera was fitted with a 18-135mm lens and the file below was a 1920x1080 (1080p) 134MB .MOV file.
The first thing that was quickly apparent was the need to focus manually. You can autofocus before shooting but not while filming - I can appreciate that professional cameras work like this and that's why top end filming is done on the shoulder with a hand free for manual focusing. However, I have been using my low cost HV564E HD SD Video Camera and although autofocus is very slow, it's a real benifit when shoting from the hip.
Secondly, this is not a light piece of kit and will get heavier depending on the lens fitted, so while it's great for photography and maybe tripod mounted filming, it's not going to take the place of a seperate 'handy cam' and 'DSLR for me.
As for the quality, I can't fault it. It's solid, takes amazing pictures and produces amazing video and the built in mic seems great too (also has a slot for an external mic). Having the ability to change lenses can only enhance the video capabilities and with the 18-135mm that I tested it with allows for amazing DOF in your video - giving some nice blockbuster styleee scenes.
The following photo is a .JPG straight from camera using 18-135mm lens. The original .JPG was 5184x3456 7.9MB.
Exposure: 0.005 sec (1/200)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length:135 mm
ISO Speed: 1600

If anyone has had any experience with this camera, I'd love to hear below ...

These were the last of my crop from the garden, I picked them when they were green and left them on the windowsill in the kitchen. I was quite surprised when they went red.
I've written a blog post for the PhotoBlog on Mackney Photography and just wanted mention and link to it here ...
As you may know I work with the Formula One Champions Brawn GP through my Derby based web design and development company Fish Media producing their eNews that gets sent out to a rather large database of fans. You may also know, I work with my Brother Simon Mackney and his photography studio based in Derby. We were invited to 'creatively' photograph one of their wind tunnels for a new wind tunnel website and we spent a couple of days at the Brawn GP headquarters and factory getting to grips with this opportunity to show them how good we can be!If you want to read more and view more photo's from the assignment, then head over to the Mackney PhotoBlog ...
The image above was produced using a light stick and painted with light, it used 27 separate images combined in Photoshop.
When I post to this Posterous blog, it's usually done with the iPhone. I've found that it's really easy to take a pic or a video and type a short paragraph of text and send it on it's way using either mobile data or WiFi. This is generally spur of the moment and means I'm not restrained to downloading photos from my SLR and having to find a desktop or a laptop to make a post.
Posterous has made photoblogging, lifestreaming and moblogging very easy for anyone who doesn't have the tech knowledge to use or constantly update a self hosted blog, and with a few choice autoposts it can be backed up or shared instantly with other communities.
Here is a selection of the 'live' autoposts that made it onto my flickr account, which I try and keep to the more interesting or images with a better quality ....I currently use the flickr API to pull in sets or tags and display the results as html, from there the html is used in Posterous. The photo's can even load into a popup lightbox pulling the large image straight from flickr.
Let me know what you think ...
