Owning a Holiday Home at Ruda, Croyde

Img_7974

In all the years we have been coming to Ruda Holiday Park in Croyde Bay, North Devon we have dreamed of owning a holiday home here. Whenever we’ve asked about it we’ve been met with the response ‘no chance’ – this is because the park has a very low number of owner plots and they ‘never’ become available because it is such a popular holiday destination.

A few years ago we purchased a touring caravan so that we could bring it to North Devon, but also tour the rest of the UK (and France) and that’s exactly what we have been doing and the idea of a fixed location was put to one side.

This weekend we were invited to visit Ruda to view FOUR new plots for owner holiday homes. When we got here three had been sold already!

Although you can rent these homes out at a mammoth wallet busting price in peak season, they’re not considered an investment due to the high purchase cost and high yearly site fees which include access to all the site facilities (pool, club, entertainment etc) But if you are like us and visit the area every year for your main family summer holiday then it becomes a real possibility.

The pictures above show the final plot with a luxury BK Bluebird already sited. The purchase price includes everything, including the fitting of new decking.

It would mean we wouldn’t need our touring van and would be committing to the next 15 years of holidays here or renting it out. I actually really enjoy touring and visiting new places so … the jury is currently out.

Looks great – better than the package hol statics. But I think you’d want to go in-season – imagine the weather forecast was great and you owned one, then tell the kids you can’t go as it’s booked out.15 years is way too long a commitment, whilst you already get the benefit of either leaving the caravan there for a season and/or touring for less outlay.Do what i’m going to do – retire to N.Devon 🙂

.@peterdean1 you are so right, it would probably become a burden. I would love to retire to N.Devon but in the meantime I think we will stick to touring the area 🙂
