Locate your mates with Sat Nav!
I knew it was just a matter of time ... a couple of months ago I saw how some geek on the net had written a simple program to upload his latitude and longitude via GPRS on his mobile phone to his server and then using Google maps to allow anyone to see where he was in the World at any one given time! ... pretty neat I thought.
Looks like TomTom have jumped in pretty quickly on this idea and created TomTom Buddies using their TomTom Sat Nav units linked to GPRS via a Bluetooth-equipped phone to send your co-ordinates to the TomTom server. Once on the server others can send queries to the server and then all your mates locations can be displayed on your TomTom screen (note: you need to have mates)
Key features (from their site):
- Invite your friends to become your TomTom Buddies.
- Send text messages and locations to each other.
- Show your buddies on the map.
- Navigate to your friends easily and quickly, wherever they are....
pretty amazing! now I will be able to keep track of my misses where ever she goes!
