GLOBESURFER 3G Router

After looking at custom projects and the availability of the technology currently on the market for 3G mobile Internet over WiFi, I found the OPTION GLOBESURFER III.

Basically this device takes your 3G SIM card and provides 3G (HSUPA 7.2Mbps) as a WiFi router – meaning you just connect to it as a HOTSPOT without installation or anything sticking out of your laptop. The device could be placed in the best position to receive a mobile signal and you can be anywhere within range of the WiFi signal broadcast from the device. An external antenna MMX connector makes signal boosting easy. It has a colour LCD displaying the connection status and missed calls etc (it has full phone functionality with a POTS RJ11 port)

This device also has the capability to read and manage SMS messages and also the ability to share hard drives as NAS or shared printers connected to the device over the network. As a firewall router it also has all the usual NAT, MAC, DMZ, VPN DNS, DHCP over a web browser config.

I does not have an internal battery, but would obviously run from a car, 12v battery or solar setup (yep, I’m thinking caravan again … the question is … how many caravaning neighbours would be willing to pay a nominal fee for WiFi Internet access

Dimensions are 150 x 100 x 32 mm and wall mountable. If you are seriously interested you can buy it from here, but I personally would wait for the cost to come down unless you are a business user.
